Kym Ramsey, originally from Aurora, Colorado, graduated from Georgetown’s School of Foreign Service with a Bachelor of Science degree in International Economics and Portuguese. She received a commission to the United States Army as 2nd Lieutenant and attended the Military Intelligence School and Leadership Training in Ft. Huachuca, AZ. She also completed Airborne Training at Ft. Benning. Ramsey’s first duty assignment was the 2nd Infantry Division at Camp Casey, Korea near the Demilitarized Zone. She commanded the Headquarters’ Division with over 1700 American and Korean soldiers. Next, she trained soldiers in electronic warfare and ran the administrative operations for a joint military base in Texas during Operation Desert Storm.
Ramsey received her Masters of Business Administration in 1995 and began her second career in Human Resources working for Trammel Crow, Allied Signal, Ingersoll Dresser Pumps, and the VA Medical Center in such capacities as Recruiters, Executive Benefits and Compensation, EEO Officer, Human Resource Director. As an Adjunct Professor, she taught Management, Leadership, and Communication courses to both undergraduate and graduate students at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ, Temple University and the Wharton School of Business. She is also an entrepreneur and savvy businesswoman. In 2004, Ramsey owned and operated a Goddard School (a major franchise childcare center). Mrs. Ramsey sold the school in 2008 to focus on bringing quality childcare services to the urban market and foster other business opportunities. With the support of many local community leaders, Ramsey constructed and opened her own independent school named “The Willow School” in the heart of Norristown, Pennsylvania in September 2012. The school cares for and educates up to 132 learners ages 3 month to 12 years old (before and afterschool) along with a summer camp program. She was also presented with the concept and need of a salon in the Plymouth Meeting Mall and in July of 2012 opened Calla Lily Salon. Mrs. Ramsey continues to provide consulting services to other small businesses and nonprofits in the areas of strategic planning, effective human resource management, and business operations in which to grow their bottom line.
Ramsey volunteered her time as an Admissions Counselor and Interviewer for Georgetown University, a board member of Germantown Academy’s Diversity Committee and was a member of the Junior League of Philadelphia. Mrs. Ramsey is a Certified Parent Educator working with many local child-parent focused organizations such as Department of Human Services, United Way, Saint Joseph University’s Department of Education, and The First Tabernacle Baptist Church. She received “ The 2013 Practicing Best Practices in Action For Innovator of the Year “ from the Business Center For Entrepreneurship and & Social Enterprise. She was also featured in Upscale Magazine, a guest speaker at “Wharton’s Leadership in the Business World” program and at the “Enterprising Woman Business Plan Competition” Award Ceremony Dinner. Ramsey has also served as a board member for the Russell Byers Charter School.
Kym Ramsey is a member of the Parent’s Association for Springside Chestnut Hill Academy and Germantown Friends School, an active member of Jack and Jill of America, Montgomery County for over 16 serving at Lead Teen Advisor, and The Penn Towne Chapter of The Links, Inc. for 7 years where she has held the position as Services to Youth Chair and Strategic Planning Chair. She has studied and lived in Mexico, Brazil and South Africa.
Ramsey is married to Richard H. Ramsey III and has three daughters, Morgan 22, Madison 19, and Mackenzie 17. The family resides in Plymouth Meeting, PA.
